One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya.

Chapter 2
What attitude does Martin's character display? Use examples from the text.
Martin's attitude was mean and kinda like he was angry for no reason. For example, he calls Arturo a Churroso and makes Arturo do more and more dishes.
Kamiah at congress "And most important it is about love. love is two spirits meeting joining together hold each other helping raise each other from the earth.it is born in the journey of looking for each other fed by the need to be together."
Martin's character displays a bad and rude attitude. In the text Martin calls Arturo "Churroso" and yells at him rudely. Martin is acting like the boss of the kitchen when Arturo's mom is.
I think Martin's attitude displays kinda bad person because he's being bossy and he try's to be as active and try's to be faster then Aurtoro in the kitchen he is bossy only because he's trying to act cooler and bossier to Aurtoro only because he has a better job then Aurtoro.
The attitude martin that he was like angery at the kid/ i don't know the name for lots if things like be one minute late, be like the dishwasher was going to eat you and that he was mean.
I think Martin's attitude displays kinda bad person because he's being bossy and he try's to be as active and try's to be faster then Aurturo in the kitchen he is bossy only because he's trying to act cooler and bossier to Aurtoro only because he has a better job then Aurturo.
I think the attitude Martin displays is Bossy because in the text when Arturo gets the job, Martin is/hears like he's having an (no offense) attitude that most bossy people would have. Another example is when the Dishwasher didn't clean a plate all the way, Arturo had to clean the dirty dish in front of Martin, while Martin was pressuring Arturo to do so. Also, why would Arturo call Martin,"Jabba the chef?" It wouldn't make sense if Martin was nicer, and why would Arturo make fun of someone else?
Martin's attitude is a harsh and a bit bossy.Perhaps he is jealous of Arturo because he said " you might be the favorite out there." I thought he should have at least done a load with him to teach him properly. He should imagine how he would feel if Arturo did that to him.
In the book and through out,I think Martin's attitude is, strict,and mean.I think this because, in the chapter we read yesterday, Martin was being strict and rude to Arturo! (who just started his job) He was bossing him around, and he was also being specific on a lot of things. He was also calling Arturo names. Which brings me to my conclusion.
Martin is a very serious yet jealous man (I don't know his age .-.) His way of speaking to Arturo was very rude.I mean..he just started his job hes a rookie but he claims him as churruso. Meaning "Filthy One", I find this very rude because Arturo is just a young boy trying to work as his family buisness failing to get the job he desires. But Martin proceeds to humiliate him having NO patience for him acting like a manager which brings us to the whole conclusion. Martin makes readers feel a bit absurd but not really just for the way he acts. :P

Nanda-KOS I think Martin is a guy that has very little patience and he thinks he's in control of everything because on page.21 Martin said "That clock is not your friend. I. Am not your friend. I. Am your boss." I also think he is a cruel and a bad boss. I don't think he's friendly too. because on page.22 Martin said "What are you scanning around for? Nobody's here to protect you. You might be the favorite out there, but in this kitchen you're mine!"
Martin is very rude and unkind. I know this because it says on page 21 "You are late! That clock is not your friend. I. Am not your friend. I. Am your boss.

Maryann@KOS. Martin want every thing to be absolutely perfect. He over worked Arturo with lots and lots of dishes. Arturo is soaked from washing so many dishes really fast. So Martin rushes people and want every thing perfect.
Merinaz-KOS I believe that Martin is a rude and impatient person. He calls Arturo "churruso" and always rushes him. Arturo doesn't like his personality very much and neither do I.

Dickinson:zacara I think that martin is trying to make them stop there restaurant and so he can make more money then them and so he can have more people them o they can make less money so they won,t woke anymore.
Martin was rude and he was mean to Arturo even though it was his first time on the job he didnt care and thats how Arturo got covered in stuff from the dishwasher another reason he was covered in disgwasher stuff is because ther dishwasher is broken.🛁
I think Martin is kinda mean...Martin is always really mean to Arturo and I think that he's also kinda mean to the cooks to, as it states on page 50 "Martin was in an especially nasty mood today, and I could hear him yelling orders at the cooks."

martin was super strick on arturo frst day he was one minute late on the job he had come in at 9:00 on the dot and he got in trouble when he was doing the dishes he lefth won single spot got in trouble so when he got the spot off martin walk a away and mumble somthing under his breath and thats how martin is mean!

Martin is a very bossy person from the text it said he was throwing plates, cups, and other utensils around the kitchen. We also know that he likes to listen to heavy metal. Zoey@KOS
Nanda@KOS Martin is a big guy that was like the boss of Arturo, He bossed Arturo around and told him what to do. He was harsh on Arturo. If Arturo made one small mistake Martin would yell at him and tell him to better.On page.24 Martin said "Martin glanced over and scoffed, pointing to a tiny speck on one of the plates." And "He shoved the plate into my chest and made me hand wash it in front of him."

ReplyDeleteKamya@Harrisionpark, So martin was very mean when Arturo started to work in the kitchen. Also he was so rude that he throw dirty dishes at Arturo.Finally Martin said the dish washer would eat him an he was being really rude!

ReplyDeleteMartin is a rude stuck up person. Pages 20-23. When Arturo was just 1 minute late Martin shouted at him, he also shoved Arturo to the dishwasher,then he calls him names, like filthy one,
ReplyDeletewhen Arturo had misted one speck of food martin yelled at Arturo, and then made him wash it again in front of him in till he could see him face in it. That is why i think Martin is rude and stuck up.
Martin attitude was bossy,rude, and mean. Sometimes i think he's bossy for no reason or he's bossy because he thinks he's the boss.

ReplyDeletemartin was super strick on arturo frst day he was one minute late on the job he had come in at 9:00 on the dot and he got in trouble when he was doing the dishes he lefth won single spot got in trouble so when he got the spot off martin walk a away and mumble somthing under his breath and thats how martin is mean!

ReplyDeleteDaniela@HarrisonPark He's the person who is kinda mean because he calls Arturo "churoso" and meant "filthy one" and he makes him rush because he counted "Uno Dos Tres Cuatro Cinco!" while tossing plates in the air and making Arturo clean teh plates because Martin said "Aurelio is out sick today,so you have been promoted from junior dishwasher to assistant prep dishwasher.think you can handle it?" and he also said "What are you standing around for?Nobody's here to protect you.you might be the favorite out there,but in this kitchen your MINE!!!!" and he also said "Ah,pobrecito,did churoso ruin his little basketball tee-tee?Serves you right for working to slow!" and he also when Arturo was working Martin was looking over to lake a look at the plates and he said "Do you think customers are going to like grime with there plantain mash,Churoso?Clean this one again." and Arturo washed a bit more and Martin said "More,i want to see my face in it."

Martin is a very bossy person from the text it said he was throwing plates, cups, and other utensils around the kitchen. We also know that he likes to listen to heavy metal.

ReplyDeleteMartin is a big guy that was like the boss of Arturo, He bossed Arturo around and told him what to do. He was harsh on Arturo. If Arturo made one small mistake Martin would yell at him and tell him to better.On page.24 Martin said "Martin glanced over and scoffed, pointing to a tiny speck on one of the plates." And "He shoved the plate into my chest and made me hand wash it in front of him."
