One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya.

GREAT DAY OF BLOGGING - Discuss whether Arturo "epically failed" as the title implies.
why did artoro feel like he is epicling is he was sorry for abuela because willfrido was emberasad abuela infornt of whole this people that why arturo feel like he is epcling

I think Arturo did have an epic fail because everything is going downhill for him right now. From Carmen turning him down to Abuela dying. His own family is even giving up and Wilfrido is gaining power.
Arturo thinks he has epically failed because, well first of all, he got rejected by his god sister, second of all, he tried to stop Wilfrido Pipo, which he probably does, but while that he thinks that it's his fault Abuela died--probably due to all the stress she had or been given (told), but Arturo thinks he gave Abuela more stress then before.
I think Arturo said he has epically failed because he feels that he let people down. Arturo also just lost his grandma because he thinks he was stressing her out. He got put in a cell for sticking up for his family and losing. And he's worried Carmen wont want to be friends anymore after what Arturo asked her. Nothing has changed Wilfredo Pipo is still getting his way in everything.
Arturo was saying that it was a epic fail because he thought that he was the reason La Cocina was probably going to get taken. Another epic fail was that Abuela passed away and that was sad.
I think Arturo thinks it was a Total Epic Fail because he got regected and he got put in jail or,a cell in a trailer . Abuela died as well. Arturo protested as well but everyone was a trance or they belived Wifredo. Nobody listened to Arturo. Everyine at the festival was a witness and they didn't do anything.
Arturo felt like he was A total epic fail because his Abeula died. And the community din't hear him and the restaurant might shut down and he did not get Carmen A total epic fail.
Arturo thinks that he is a failer because, Carmen told Arturo that she does not like him/ Arturo,and that Mrs. Pipo's ripped the sign, and that Abela died.
I think that Arturo says he has epically failed because he wanted to save the restaurant before abuela died.He wanted Carmen to like him and make abuela proud for saving the restaurant. This is why I think Arturo said he has epically failed.

I also think he has epically failed because when he tried to save La Cocina De La Isla he failed and got put in the festival's jail alone without anyone around. He thinks he has failed because after all this happened abuela has died and Arturo is very sad about her death.

Arturo thinks he epically failed because of many reasons. Arturo got rejected by Carmen which was an epic fail. Sadly Abuela passed away and La Cocina de la Isla is on the verge of going out of business because of Wilfrido Pipo. If Wilfrido does win the lot the Zamora family will not only have lost Abuela they've lost their second home (La Cocina).

Logan-SWCC I think the epically fail was when his mom came in and told arturo that his grandma died and he just kept on wathing the Guantanamera video. And I think he just didnt care about it until the next day.

Josue-SWCC-Arturo didn't fail even do his grandma died,he got rejected,and he almost lost La Cocina. But at the end of the book he got the girl,he won the lot,and he started to feel better about his grandma.

Jennifer-SWCC The only fail i think Arturo had was when he got rejected by Carmen or she did not she just kind of ignored it, but at the end of the story if you read the last part it says la cocina de la isla wins and pipos place does not get to own la cocina so that means Arturo did fail at a couple of things but not about saving la cocina.
SWCC-Ximena In my opinion I think Arturo did not fail.I think he didn't fail because he spoke to defend the restaurant. He was also very brave when he told Carmen that he liked her.

Carl@Dickinson I dont think Arturo and his family have failed that much but things were not good i just think they mostly lost the fight but they did not fail but they did lose a member of there family but also I think they have a 25% chance at getting the resturant back to normal.
Jer´riyah@Dickinson My opinion is that I think Arturo did not fail I think that people are still just wanting the gifts,and free food from Wilfrido. And when he saw everyone looking at him he thought that he might have done something wrong. As for Arturo and Carmen I think she likes him to its just hard to be around now that she knows he likes her.

Jaizear-The Mulick Park School Arturo did not epically fail as the title states because at the end of the story Arturo was able to keep the restaurant standing and not demolished, and on the other hand, Wilfrido Pipo could not build his building like he planned. Also on the back of the book it says ,"Get the Girl " well.... Arturo did that too because at the end of the story it seemed like Carmen was interested in Arturo. I found my answers on pages 218 and 232. This means Arturo did not epically fail.
Emily-SWCC I think he didn't fail because he did tell Carmen that he liked her but in the end Carmen kissed him also he tough that it was his fault that abuela died but it wasn't
Nataly-SWCC My opinion for this is that he didn't fail because Carmen actually liked him, they also kissed. He helped La Cocina De La Isla with his poem.
Jadyn-SWCC Well i think he thinks he failed is when Carmen rejected him then his abuela dies and he thinks its his fault but it is not. than when he stands up for la cocina and he gets thrown in jail BUTTTTT of course we all make mistakes but he did do a lot of awesome stuff and his poem was awesome and la cocina did end up doing a great job but i do wish he would have said something at his abuelas funeral.
Damon-SWCC, Arturo's adventure is epically failed because Arturo got rejected by Carmen when he said that he liked her.Arturo's grandma died.And people were falling for Wilfrido Pipo's new building and buisness was winning the vote.
Malachi-SWCC I think that arturo was going uphill when Wilfrido wasn't there now when Wildfrido was there it was going downhill but lucky arturo Wilfrido got voted out of the neighborhood because he was trying to be the boss of the neighborhood and control of the future and rule the neighborhood

Keira @shawmut I don't get why its called epic fail, he didn't fail. In fact he barely failed at anything but the things he did fail at he acted like it was the end of the world when failing is apart of life. Its how you grow and learn as a person. That's why I don't agree with the title.
In my opinion he did succeed because he got his restaurant saved, but on the other hand I think he sort of failed because his grandma ended up passing away. It was good that he tried to save the business and he did it.
javen@shawmut I don't think Arturo failed because he got Carmen and Pipo place wan not built. The fact that he lost Abuela is the reason why a lot of people said Arturo failed but I think that was a learning experience for him. So no I really don't think he failed.

I know that Arturo did not fail he said that. "The Pipo building was to big for the height that the city council put as a rule". Arturo is kind of sad that Carmen is going back to Spain.Even though the book title says the epic fail of Arturo Zamora.
I don't think Arturo failed because Pipo Place didn't get to stay. It was to big to put up. But Carmen didn't like him back and the family restaurant is still up, but he and Carmen are still friends.

Ali@ The Mulick Park - Arturo did not "epically fail" because after all the things he has been through he still: saved the restaurant by protesting.He also got Carmen to like him in the end, and finally he made Abuela proud by using poetry to get Carmen the same way Abuelo did to get Abuela. I found how he protested to save the restaurant in chapter 16 on pg. 149- 150. I found how he got Carmen to like him when he saved the restaurant in the end, and how he made Abuela proud, I found on chapter 18 pg. 164. This means that Arturo did not have an epic fail.
Clayvon and Kyson MLK Leadership Academy, I think Arturo failed by telling Carmen that he like her. In Chapter 15.And She felt some type a way because she ran out of the restaurant. She felt like that's her god brother.That's what I think he failed on.

Arturo epically failed a little because first he told Carmen that he liked her but Carmen walked away. Then lost defeating Wilfrido because Arturo couldn't remember Jose Marti's quote, then Wilfrido made fun of Arturo because of it. Also Arturo kept making fun of his self in front of the crowd at Wilfrido's party.

ReplyDeleteArturo did not epically fail as the title states because at the end of the story Arturo was able to keep the restaurant standing and not demolished, and on the other hand, Wilfrido Pipo could not build his building like he planned. Also on the back of the book it says ,"Get the Girl " well.... Arturo did that too because at the end of the story it seemed like Carmen was interested in Arturo. I found my answers on pages 218 and 232. This means Arturo did not epically fail.

Ali@ The Mulick Park - Arturo did not "epically fail" because after all the things he has been through he still: saved the restaurant by protesting.He also got Carmen to like him in the end, and finally he made Abuela proud by using poetry to get Carmen the same way Abuelo did to get Abuela. I found how he protested to save the restaurant in chapter 16 on pg. 149- 150. I found how he got Carmen to like him when he saved the restaurant in the end, and how he made Abuela proud, I found on chapter 18 pg. 164. This means that Arturo did not have an epic fail.

Arturo got his singh and went to the festival of Wilfrido Pipo and he got "arrested" and latter he was at his house and abuela or his mom weren't there and later his mom came to his room and told him that his abuela had passed away.
